In April, at the 2005 National Reining Breeders Classic, Dell Hendricks, the NRBC’s most consistent champion, not only won the event for the fifth unprecedented time, he also passed the milestone to become a National Reining Horse Association Million Dollar Rider!

The NRHA and NRBC honored Dell with a champagne toast for joining the elite NRHA Million Dollar club, which at that time included Bill Horn, Shawn Flarida, Tim McQuay, Todd Bergen and Duane Latimer and all five of those riders were at the NRBC to congratulate him on his accomplishment.

That impromptu recognition was gratifying but on Friday, December 2, the formal presentation of his $1 Million Trophy became a reality, when he was recognized in the Oklahoma State Fairgrounds Arena with a special framed award of a photo composite of his likeness prepared by K.C. Montgomery.

“This is one of the greatest honors that has ever happened to me in the horse business,” said Hendricks. “To join the million dollar club with those guys. This is great.”

Hendricks said he especially had to thank two people. “My wife Terri. I could not make it into the arena without her.”

He also expressed his gratitude to Tim McQuay. He’s the one that got me rolling in this business. I had been telling him I wanted to get to $1 Million before he got to $2 Million and it looks like I did – just barely!”

It was especially fitting that the million dollar mark was crossed at Katy, Texas, during the NRBC Show when Hendricks won the $60,000 first place check on Hit The Lights. He has won an unprecedented five NRBC Open Championships in the event’s eight year history – and a large part of his Million Dollar total!

Prior to this year’s championship, Dell earned the NRBC’s first open title in 1998 with Mr Boomerjac (Owned by Jim and Pat Warren) and returned for his second win in 2002 riding Starlights Wrangler, owned by Sally Broten. Dell’s third and fourth titles were back-to-back championships in 2003 and 2004 riding Reminic N Dunit, owned by Tim and Colleen McQuay and David and Bonnie Silva.

In his sterling career, Dell Hendricks has won the NRHA Futurity, a USET Gold Medal, AQHA World Championships, and is a crowd favorite at major reining events. In addition to competing at the top level of the reining industry, Dell is devoted to the continued growth in all areas of the sport and will serve as the National Reining Horse Association President in 2006.

Dell and his wife, Terri, operate Hendricks Reining Horses, a state-of-the-art breeding and training facility in Tioga, Texas where they stand AQHA Reserve World Champion Dunnit In Hollywood along with NRBC Champions Starlights Wrangler and Hit The Lights, NRHA World Champion Major Vaquero, NRHA Futurity Reserve Champion Starbucks Sidekick and USEF Finalist Talk About This.
