Dell Hendricks and Broadmoor Continue Their Winning Ways

During the 2001 American Quarter Horse Association World Show, Dell Hendricks rode the flashy stallion, Broadmoor, to claim the AQHA Junior Reining World Championship.

The title has been a goal for Hendricks and owner Imp Agr Cuogi of Vignola, Italy. After the win, it was time to regroup and chart a new course for Broadmoor.

By early January, a new goal had crystallized into a clearcut plan. Hendricks not only knew the 2002 goal for Broadmoor, but had taken the first step toward realizing it.

"We decided that Broadmoor should try for the National Reining Horse Association Open World Championship," Hendricks said. "The plan is to show him at the big open reinings here in the United States the first part of the year, then send him overseas for the big open events in late summer in Europe." By mid-January, a score of 147 at the 55-entry Fort Worth Stock Show NRHA Open Class became their first step on the road to pursuing this new goal. As an added bonus, they won the AQHA Junior Reining class, as well.

Although he's convinced of Broadmoor's ability, Hendricks is quick to caution that one win does not a season make. "An NRHA year-end title takes a year-long effort and there are a lot of variables," Dell commented.

And the route to this title will be a globe-crossing journey, as his owner and trainer give the Smart Chic Olena son out of Bar J Jackie an opportunity to become the newest bi-continental NRHA World Champion.

"With the changing climate of the National Reining Horse Association and the development of the big open purses in Europe, it only makes sense to send him there. The total added money on four shows this fall is over $110,000. Plus, since Cuogi is from Italy, that makes it even better!" Hendricks commented.
