Dell Hendricks + BroadmoorAugsburg, Germany - September 12 - Dell Hendricks rode Broadmoor, owned by Imp Agr Cuoghi of Vignola, Italy to win the 2002 Americana September 12 in Augsburg, Germany.

Spectators at the event were delighted to see two NRHA Futurity champions, Hendricks and Andrea Fappani, in head to head competition. Fappani rode Ricochet Rooster, owned by Manuea Bonzano of Italy to win the first round with a score of 221.5. That just edged them past Hendricks and Broadmoor, who scored 221.

In the clean-slate finals, Fappani went fourth, and ended up marking 218.5 after some penalties. That left the field open and the lead went to Martin Larcombe on ARC Oak Enterprise owned by Cisal Quarter Horses of Italy for a score of 222.5

Hendricks and Broadmoor went next to last in the 17-horse field and the run had flashes of brilliance. "He turned around as good or better than he ever has," commented Hendricks.

The small arena dimensions (only about 70' wide) precluded Dell's trademark fast circles, but the run stayed solid throughout and the judges rewarded him with a score of 227 and the win. It was the second premier win for the team of Hendricks and Broadmoor.

Last November, Hendricks, of Tioga, Texas, rode the 5-year-old son of Smart Chic Olena out of Bar J Jackie by Zan Parr Jack to win the 2001 American Quarter Horse Junior Reining World Championship. Shortly after the win, Hendricks and owner Cuoghi announced the plan for Hendricks to show him at the Americana.

"Our plan was to make a run for the NRHA World title," explained Hendricks. "We wanted to do it by just hitting the majors." Broadmoor was shown in three countries, and his 8 runs earned just under $17,000 for the year. Dell showed the horse at the NRHA Derby and the Americana and he was also shown by Cuoghi trainer, Kelly Sweifel. The result will likely be an NRHA Open Reserve World Championship.

Broadmoor was officially retired following the Americana win, and will stand at the Cuogi Ranch in Vignola, Italy.

Hendricks, the 1999 National Reining Horse Association Futurity Champion, is one of the most prominent reiners in the industry, and in just ten years, his earnings have surpassed the half million dollar mark. In 2002, he became the only reiner ever to win the prestigious National Reining Breeders Classic twice.
