Sally Broten Rides Starlights Wrangler Son To Futurity Co-Championship

When Sally Broten rode Dun It By Starlight to a score of 216 to win the Southwest Reining Horse Association Non Pro Futurity Co-Championship on October 30, 2004, she had the obvious reason to celebrate, but the championship actually meant much more to the River Falls, Wisconsin reiner.
Broten co-owns the gelding’s sire, National Reining Breeders Classic Open Champion Starlights Wrangler, along with trainer Dell Hendricks. For this duo, the win was further endorsement of the young stallion’s breeding prowess. Starlights Wrangler was only bred to a handful of mares in 2000, but his impact on the reining world is already documented in this first season of foals to show. Dun It By Starlight is the second of his four 3-year-old foals to earn a futurity championship! That’s not a bad record for a foal crop that was strictly the product of a test breeding year while he was still being shown.
Earlier in the year, at the Sandhills Slide Futurity in August, Jim Hendricks rode Mega Starlight (by Starlights Wrangler) to the Non Pro and Intermediate Non Pro Futurity Championships of that event.
Dun It By Starlight, a gelding by Starlights Wrangler out of Okie Dokie Dunit by Hollywood Dun It was especially great in his stops and his style was reminiscent of his sire’s charismatic show presence.
Broten was thrilled with the win. “If this is any indication as to the sire power of Starlights Wrangler, I plan to do multiple embryos on my mares so all my friends can share the fun!”
Sally also owns Dun It By Starlight’s dam, Okie Dokie Dunit, a mare on which she won an NRHA Reserve World Championship. Okie Dokie Dunit is also the dam of Mega Ditto, the NRHA’s current leading Non Pro horse.
Dell Hendricks trained Dun It By Starlight and rode him to an Open third place finish at the Sandhills Slide Futurity and showed him to an All American Quarter Horse Congress Open Finals qualification before handing the reins over to his owner.
“I am very excited that out of Starlight Wranglers first foal crop of four, one half of them are already futurity champions. I’m looking forward to a fun future with him.”
